College is Overrated.

This guy says it all, he has put everything I have been trying to explain to people in words and more. You do not need a college education to be succesful and in some cases it truly is a waste of money.

You know who else didn't go to business school? Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady.

I graduated in the top 10% of my class from high school and went to Michigan State University where I got a bachelors degree.

That I do NOTHING with. And no one flipping cares one shit for it either. They all want experience. Sure, they SAY they want a degree, but when it comes down to it, experience is more important. So, I'm $20,000 in debt for my college education and working the exact same job my husband works, making pretty good money, where almost everyone around me has no education past 12th grade.

Do I think a bachelors degree is necessary? Hell no.

I don't think a degree is necessary, unless you have a clear idea what you want to do, for example I can't teach in the public school system without one, the same would obviously apply to doctors, nurses etc...

England has a similar problem in that people are going to 'school' and come away with huge debt and a useless piece of paper. You can even do David Beckham studies, that would be a pretty redundant degree...

More emphasis needs to be put on vocations rather than getting a degree for the sake of it. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians are certainly in demand and make good money and yet are looked down upon, this to me seems ridiculous...sadly like in England this is also the case and Tony Blair spent since 1997 harking on about 'education education education' and just produced a population of students with massive debt and no real ambition...

The German system is great to a point, once you leave high school you have to enter either academia, military or a vocational training. All 3 of which have equal emphasis, too often people dictate their course of action due to the 'popular perception' around them of what they might do....

The downside of the german system is that they specialize pretty much at 11 years old, and track you in different kinds of schools, this can be frustrating for students who find their academic vocation a little later in life...
