Biking, Climbing and Work

For the 3rd time this week I'm getting ready to go for a bike ride. I am really starting to enjoy biking, and I am become less and less scared of going fast and falling off a cliff!

I have been biking a part of Palmer Park over by our apartment that is pretty fun it's about a 1.5mile trail downhill from where I start, the climb back up to the car is not nearly as fun though!

Today I think I may take a bit longer of a ride see if I can't get lost in the park...which is not very hard to do.

Sunday I am going climbing with Dan as I finally have all of the equipment I need as in shoes, harness, helmet, chalk bag and chalk. We are going to top rope climb though I am a bit more interested in bouldering so I need to find someone to try that out with as well.

Work has been stressing me way out this week and I need to get back on the ball with it, I'm not sure that corporate america is for me though....we'll see how that turns out. Part of me says suck it up it's a job and a good paying one but the other part of me wants to be happy all the time with what I am doing.

Off to bike I suppose....oh yeah the picture is the bike that I have except mine is red and white.

So the studio is busy again, well it's busy enough for me to say were busy, nothing like the Christmas rush though. I guess a better way to say it is we have steady business, which no one can complain about these days.

The weather is starting to turn around here again which is very nice, I took a bike ride today out at Palmer Park it was pretty nice, I found a new are with some great downhill routes, of course riding back up to the car was terrible but the downhill was worth it.

I have been feeling a certain responsibility to update since very few of us have been doing so lately.

So here's the rundown of what's going on in Colorado.

1. The mountains are still very cold, which dissapoints me because I really want to start camping soon. yes I could just tough it out but why freeze my ass off?

2. I talked with Lin the other day and it made me very happy to speak with her and find out that she is planning a visit on her way back to Michigan for the summer...This is very exciting to me and I can not wait.

3. It's suppose to snow again tonight like crazy....what happened to the 70 degree weather we had in Feb.?

4. I don't understand why I am using numbers for this list but I will continue to do so until I run out of things to tell you.

5. Chauncey (the leaderdog puppy we have) is getting pretty big, he is a fun guy, no so bright sometimes but very fun.

6. Kellie and I are planning a trip to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner tonight..mmm mmm

7. Work is ...well it's work, there are many days that I wish I could work outside again all day.

8. When I win the powerball I will have a job for each and everyone of you, but don't worry you will be well paid and appreciated.

Well last weekend the weather was 70-75 degrees and prompted me to take the top off of my jeep. This week a nightmare on the horizon. Starting tomorrow they are calling for "near blizzard conditions"

8"-14" is what they are saying. This doesn't bother me because I don't like snow or that I can't drive in it, what bothers me is that everyone is going to cancel the photo appointments they have made and I will sit at work with nothing to do.

My only hope is that they just close the mall...it's a small hope but a hope none the less.

I decided that if I wrote about what I was doing this weekend it would incline me to actually take pictures and post them here.

So tonight we are going to a potluck dinner for a new friend, I made my mom's cheesy potato's I really hope they come out as well as they do at home.

Sunday is really what I am excited about! Kellie and I are going to drive over to Cripple Creek and check out the ice carving festival, I will hopefully take some pics while we are over there. I assume that when we go towards the mountains that way that there will actually be snow as we have not really had any here in the springs this winter yet. It should be a nice drive in the jeep should be fun.

Last night we went out for a night of karaoke at a local bar called Thunder and Buttons. It was a pretty good time I sang one song and it was pretty fun. I would have been encouraged to sing more but the guy running the show was a pretty big jerk off.

He calls himself "Crazy Tony" now I will give him the fact he has a great set up nice sound equipment and he runs a nice show. But unless your an attractive female or a guy that he personally knows he just does not give you the time of day or respect to be on the stage. It was kind of frustrating but good company made up for the old creeper running the show.

Been at work a lot lately, actually no more than any other week it just feels like it because it's so slow. I can't stand being at the studio by myself. I am very used to working around others and running a solo business I really don't think is for me. I need the human interaction.

I did get the jeep yesterday and I'm loving it already, I will post a pic when I get a chance to take one in the day light. I'm looking forward to a good drive on some of my time off this week head up the mountain a bit.

A wordy update.

I have been really bad about updating my blog lately. Tisk tisk I know.

They have been introducing a lot of new technology at work lately and I have been trying to keep up. The idea of it all is for us to "go green" which I believe is a good thing. The amount of paper we use for a industry that is based on a digital format now it ridiculous. We are introducing a new sales process as well as updating the ancient art of paper time sheets to a new automated system that will have our employees punching in and out real time. All good things going on here.

Outside of work I have been hassling with the process of purchasing a new vehicle, a new jeep to be exact. I believe that this sales process is the worst I have ever encountered. In my own line of work I try to make sure that the guests are quickly tended too and happy with every aspect of the transaction. Car sales...not so much. This is not to mention the hassle of getting a bank approval on anything these days. I knew the economy was bad but how can it get better if the banks are so stingy on giving loans. I make more than enough now to cover a loan and I still had to have a co-signer. Apparently I have an insufficient credit history, 5 years is not enough, get credit when your 10 and you might have a good head start.

Perhaps the biggest news I have is my trip for home that is fast approaching. That's right I will be home soon and expect to see everyone I can in the very short time I will be there. I plan on being in on the 28th of Feb. and I will be leaving March 2nd in the evening. I feel the best way for me to accomodate everyone is an evening in the Ann Arbor area. Drinking and friends will be involved and I am highly looking forward to it.

Overall things are good out here on the front range, I am a bit down about the lack of snow we receive here though. It will snow 3 inches and be gone by the afternoon but I suppose there is enough in the mountains for everyone.

I was a bit long winded on this one.

So what have I been up too?

Well work is always there as well as the occasional trip to the local watering holes.

The newest thing though is my search for a new Jeep Wrangler. Yes that's right I have made it not even 6 months driving a new car and I already want a new Jeep. So the search is on, and with the economy the way it is right now it's a buyers market. So that's what I'm doing tommorow I have a few more I want to look at and get someone to make me a deal.

So wish me luck.

I know that July is a long way's away but I am getting excited for our trip home to see friends attend what is going to be an amazing wedding and see some family along the way.

So last night I looked for some plane tickets which were pretty up there in price. So Kel threw the idea at me of driving back. And I think that's what were going to do, it's not really that long with the two of us driving and we would be able to bring both the dogs.

We figured it out very quickly that driving would save us any where from $800-$900 on this trip home. Seems logical to me.

I will begin taking orders for Colorado beers in June.

So I have been really bad about updating lately but with the holiday's coming up we have been pretty busy in the portrait world.....who would have known.

Thankfully it is slowing down a bit. I am looking forward to Christmas and kind of not. It is going to be really different this year as it will be a first for Kellie and I being away from home.

But we do have some plans we are going to hang out at home in the morning then we are going to see Marley and Me and then we are going to spend the evening with some friends, order some chinese and have some holiday drinks.

So it should be a good time. I am really looking forward to giving kellie the gifts that I have gotten her.

Well I call it dog bar they call it Kinfolks, it's an awesome little bar/gear shop in Manitou Springs at the base of Pikes Peak. It's true you can bring your dog as well, really I'm serious people have their dogs with them just wandering around the bar. My dog is too much of an a-hole to go yet but were working on that.

So we are off to Kinfolks tonight to see The Haunted Windchimes play, very folk hippie type band should be a good time.

Waldo Canyon

This Monday Kellie and I went for a hike in Waldo Canyon. The hike was somewhere between 6-7 miles (every sign says something different). Well it is official now I have a home in Colorado Springs.

Yesterday Kellie and I put a security deposit down on a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment on the north end of town (the better end apparently). It's a really nice place brand new carpet, counters, wood burning fireplace, and best of all full size washer and dryer!

I am moving in at the end of the month and Kel should be shortly afterwards.

Now for why you are looking at a picture of my gecko... the apartments do not take reptiles or exotics and we have already talked them into taking a leader dog puppy on top of our two animals so I need a home for my dear gecko.

She is very easy to take care of some crickets a couple times a week, she uses the same corner of the tank as her bathroom all the time so clean up is easy. And she's way cool.

Someone adopt her please. I hate to leave her but this is a better way of doing things, we already have to hide a ball python in the place.

We are also looking for a home for Herb the Sulcata Tortoise...he gets big though.

I have started the process of cleaning out my room. This is shaping up to be very difficult, in addition to packing I have a lot of choices to make as to what parts of my life now go into a trash bag and what I keep.

See the problem is I tend to keep a lot of shit, a lot of shit I don't need.

One interesting find I did have today was a coffee mug, this mug came from Camp Copneconic. Yep I took a mug call the cops. It was one of our brown mugs for coffee that never held enough you know what I'm talking about.

Now on this mug I wrote Camp '04 as well as a quote and I feel that 4 years later this quote sums up just about everything that I have dealt with.

Summer of '04 where we began, where life started, and I grew into the adult I am today.

Well the verdict is in and as of this afternoon I have been hired!

I will be taking the position of Studio Manager for a JCP Portrait studio in Colorado Springs, Co.

The shocker of this is I am starting right after labor day, so I have 3 weeks to get my shit together and head 1300 miles to the left.

Kellie is currently looking for a job in the area and will be coming out shortly behind me as it stands now.

Words can not describe how excited I am.

Today was the first day of the rest of my life.

That's pretty philosophical huh?

I had an interview today with Lifetouch Phototography. It went really well and I am very confident about the outcome.

If I got this job I would be moving to Colorado, just as planned and I would be running a store that is very profitable...which in turn could help me to profit. So things are looking up.

I have to give credit to all that I have learned over the years through camps though, while it was a business type interview I found myself referencing a lot that I had learned while interviewing at camp. I talked about how I enjoy what I do and that's what makes me successful. I feel like this really helped. I let him know who I am and why I do what I do..

So now is the waiting game.

I am making a quick pit stop before my weekend job in Chicago. I have come home to shower collect non camp clothing and go make some money.

It was an interesting week in the land of Camp Adventure. While we had a rough week with the kids I still had a good time...frustrating yes. But how can you not enjoy a week outside?

My Vibram 5fingers have a smell that should be outlawed in most states, and I'm not so sure that one wash will get it out.

It's story time kids, so sit back and listen to this tale. Last night myself and my significant other went out to our favorite drinking destination this side of the mighty Shiawassee. Known to many as Sagebrush Cantina. Now we all know that the Brush is a public domain where any one can be and do as they please.

On this night there was a certain crowd attending the festivities of the brush and while I was amused to see a lot of them and indifferent to seeing others there was a situation that arose.

A former boss of sorts was in attendance and while it was nice to see an active social life arising for this individual her attitude regarding personal space was less than appealing. She informed members of the group she was with, staff members at that to make sure that I (and one other person who I will not name they can let it out if they wish) was at least 5ft away from her at all times or she would lose it.

This in turn made me want to go and give the best hug I've ever given but I did not. The situation also caused others to avoid talking to our small group in fear that the boss would see.

I can only hope that she reads this and realizes how childish and ridiculous she really is.

A public place is a public place no matter what previous situations have arose.

Neil Diamond

I spent a good part of my night last night watching the results show of American Idol. The mentor of sorts this week was Neil Diamond, in turn he had to preform. How convienent that he has a new album "dropping" soon as they say in the biz.

After listening to Neils song "Pretty Amazing Grace" I realized that Neil Diamond is living the dream. Neil has sold millions of albums and never sang a word. He speaks with a tonal voice and people love him.

Why does Neil Diamond just speak and never sing, because he can. When you catch yourself jamming to Neil it's because when he speaks he is actually saying "Hey listen here jackass I'm Neil Diamond, I don't have to sing, but you'll like it."

The song "Pretty Amazing Grace" Has a very passive name in my humble opinion and and even more passive tone. There is no huge climax to the song, it just kind of floats by you with no intentions of doing anything else than to say, Neil Diamond is alive and well and standing behind a microphone speaking take out your wallet.

Right now it kind of a lull before the storm that is our spring season at Hot Shots. I have spent my last week doing tons of prep work and cleaning in order to be ready for the thousands upon thousands of kids we will photograph in the next 3 months.

This week has also made me realize again how much I love my job. The atmosphere is so laid back yet we get a lot done. We have fun and it changes everyday. I look forward to this spring and getting out there making good pictures again.

As for this weekend, I am doing a whole ton of nothing. I have spent the majority of today in my sweats. I organized my room a bit and now it's time for a shower.

What do the hours ahead hold for me. Probably a large amount of Halo, some photochop fun, and a possible adult beverage.

Due to the fact that I have been posting everyday I felt that today it was a good thing to do as well. I have been playing with photoshop a lot lately. Here is one of my recent projects. the person in the photo's is known to a certain web community as Bogginboy. He is strongly disliked by many for his poor bussiness ethics, I on the other hand am rewarded for my amazing skills at making him look like moron. If anyone has any full length photos of kit I would be glad to indulge my skills.

I took this pic a few weeks ago while passing through a major college town...should be a give away by the businesses(take a guess).

At what point is the armor covered truck deemed useless for defense due to rust? I am pretty sure I could have thrown a pen through the side of this "armored" vehicle and made out like a mad man.

I thought about it, I mean I have seen it in movies and this truck just made it seem so much easier.
